OEA NS Recognized with 2015 Kevin Corkum Memorial Award

The Office of the Employer Advisor Nova Scotia (OEA) was presented with the Kevin Corkum Memorial Award at Forest Nova Scotia’s annual meeting in Halifax. This award is presented annually by Forest Nova Scotia in recognition of utilizing and promoting the safest work habits in the Forest Industry. The award was given to recognize the positive impact the OEA has had advocating on behalf of employers to address proposed draft safety regulations. A thorough review of proposed draft OHS safety regulations by the OEA identified a number of key issues of serious concern to workers and employers alike.

Goals of the FSSNS

  • Improve profits.
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory bodies.
  • Manage and establish ownership of industry managed loss control programs.
  • Reduce Workers' Compensation rates.
The Forestry Safety Society of Nova Scotia is registered under the Societies Act of Nova Scotia. It is a separate entity, having a Memorandum of Association and By-Laws. The Society is governed by a Board of Directors, representing all sectors of the forest industry.
