A supplier was completing a five-minute welding job on his tractor when sparks ignited his nylon jacket. In the process of running outside to roll on the ground, the supplier burnt his hands trying to remove the nylon jacket.

The supplier was not wearing proper protective clothing, in particular, a heavy leather jacket and gloves.

Recommendations to Prevent a Recurrence

Wear all appropriate personal protective equipment while welding.
