Half-Track Clamp Snapped Off

Hazard Alert

Half-Track Clamp Snapped Off

A half-track on a forwarder was cross-ways on the bogey wheels, causing tension on the half-track.  In order to straighten the half-track, it needed to be removed.  The operator was removing the clamp when the tension snapped the end off the clamp, sending it flying through the air and almost hitting the operator.

Recommendations to Prevent a Recurrence

– Use a come-a-long to relieve the tension on the clamp before removing it.

– Decrease air pressure in the tire before maintenance begins.

– Keep the track tight at all times.
