Half-Ton Trucks Collide on Logging Road

Hazard Alert

Travel Appropriate Speed for Conditions

Travelling outbound on a logging road, a Company supervisor met another pick-up truck travelling inbound on an icy, rutted logging road.  The vehicles met at the top of a slight downhill slope.  As the brakes on the outbound truck were applied, it started to slide.  The inbound truck pulled off the road the best he could, but the two trucks collided and brushed front fenders.  When both vehicles stopped, the trucks were side-by-side.  The outbound truck was unable to avoid the inbound vehicle as the half-ton stayed in the icy wheel ruts once the brakes were applied.

Recommendations to Prevent a Recurrence

Travel the appropriate speed for road conditions.  Be aware that road conditions may change suddenly.
